Statistical Highlights:
  • India registered their 9th win in 11 matches against Kenya.  This is their first ODI win at Cape Town. In their previous encounter at this venue, they lost to South Africa by 6 wickets on 7.12.1992.

  • India's 28th triumph in 51 World Cup matches is their third in as many matches against Kenya.

  • With five consecutive wins in this World Cup, Sourav Ganguly's team equalled Kapil Dev's feat of 5 wins in succession in the 1987-88 World Cup.
  • Sourav Ganguly's 21st century in ODIs is his 10th as captain.  He shares the record for most centuries (10) as captain with Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya.

  • Ganguly's hundred against Kenya is his second in 10 matches.

  • Ganguly's 8534 runs in 225 matches places him in the eighth place amongst the leading run-getters in ODIs.  During his 21st hundred, he overtook Mark Waugh's tally of 8500 runs in 244 matches.

  • In the 2002-03 World Cup, Ganguly became the first to register two centuries.  He joins two other Indians - Sachin Tendulkar (1995-96) and Rahul Dravid (1999) to have posted two centuries in one particular World Cup competition.  Mark Waugh (Australia) is the only one to have recorded three centuries in one particular competition (1995-96).

  • Ganguly's 107 not out off 120 balls is his third century in World Cup.  With three centuries in World Cup, Ganguly jointly holds the second place with Saeed Anwar (Pakistan), Viv Richards (W.Indies) and Ramiz Raja (Pakistan). Sachin Tendulkar (India) and Mark Waugh (Australia) share the World Cup record with 4 centuries each in World Cup.

  • In the history of the World Cup, only two captains have now posted two centuries as captain - Sourav Ganguly and Glenn Turner (NZ).

  • The 84-run partnership between Rahul Dravid and Ganguly is a record for the fourth wicket for India against Kenya in ODIs/World Cup.

  • The 118-run (unbroken) partnership between Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj is a record for the fifth wicket for India against Kenya in ODIs/World Cup. 

  • Yuvraj's 58 not out against Kenya is the highest score in World Cup, surpassing his previous best of 50 not out against Pakistan at Centurion.  Overall, this was his 12th fifty in ODIs.  Yuvraj's knock is his first fifty against Kenya in ODIs.

  • Javagal Srinath, with two wickets against Kenya, became the leading wicket-taker (309 wkts. in 225 matches) for India in ODIs, surpassing Anil Kumble's tally of 308 in 241.

  • Srinath is now fourth in the list of all-time leading wicket-takers, next only to Wasim Akram (P) - 502; Waqar Younis (P) - 416 and Muttiah Muralitharan (SL) - 317.

  • Srinath (2/43) took his tally to 38 World Cup wickets in 30 matches, sharing the second spot with Allan Donald (38 in 25) and Glenn McGrath (38 in 24).  Wasim Akram tops the list with 55 wickets in 38 matches.

  • Srinath in this edition of the World Cup, became the first bowler from India to claim 10 wickets.

  • Ravindu Shah completed his 1000 runs in ODIs during his innings of 34 off 52 balls.  He is the fourth batsman from Kenya to achieve this feat, joining Steve Tikolo, Kennedy Otieno and Maurice Odumbe.

  • Shah and Otieno established a partnership record (75) for Kenya for the first wicket against India in World Cup, surpassing the 41 between D.Chudasama and Kennedy Otieno at Cuttack in 1995-96.

  • Kennedy Otieno (79 off 134 balls) registered his second best score in World Cup - his best is 85 against Australia in the 1995-96 World Cup at Vishakhapatnam.

  • Otieno's 8th fifty in ODIs is his fourth in World Cup.

  • Otieno recorded the highest individual score for Kenya against India in World Cup, surpassing Steve Tikolo's 65 at Cuttack.

  • The aforesaid score is the second highest individual score for Kenya against India in ODIs - the best is 83 by Maurice Odumbe at Gwalior in 1997-98.

  • Kenya's 225 for 6 is their second best score against India in World Cup - the best is 235 for 7 at Bristol in 1999.

  • Ravindu Shah is now the leading run-getter for Kenya in this World Cup - 204 runs in 6 matches at an average of 34.00.

  • Collins Obuya, with 10 wickets (ave.24.00) in 6 matches is their leading bowler in this World Cup.
