  • Sachin's 48th Man of the Match award in ODIs is his 8th in World Cup - both are records.
  • India's 276 for four is their highest ever total at this venue, surpassing their previous best of 233 against South Africa at Centurion in 2001-02.

  • Anwar, in his previous ELEVEN innings in ODIs against India, did not score even a fifty.
  • Anwar's 101 off 126 balls is  his third century in World Cup.  In the 1999 World Cup, he had recorded two back to back centuries - 103 vs. Zimbabwe and 113 not out against New Zealand.
  • Anwar recorded his highest score against India in World Cup, surpassing his previous best of 48 off 32 balls at Bangalore in 1995-96. 
  • Anwar's 101 is now the highest individual score for Pakistan in a world cup game against India, surpassing the 62 by Aamir Sohail at Sydney in 1991/92,
  • Anwar's World Cup tally of 875 runs (ave.51.47) in 20 matches is exceeded only by Javed Miandad for Pakistan - 1083 (ave.43.32) in 33 matches.
  • Playing in his 50th ODI against India, Anwar took his tally to 2002 - the most by any player in India-Pakistan ODIs.
  • Anwar's aggregate of 2002 runs (ave.43.52), including four centuries and 8 fifties in 50 matches is the best against India by any batsman in ODIs - the next best is 1786 runs (ave.36.45) in 57 matches, including 3 centuries and 13 fifties by Aravinda de Silva.  
  • Anwar's 101 is his fourth century against India in ODIs. He now joins Sanath Jayasuriya (SL), Gary Kirsten (SA) and Nathan Astle (NZ).  They all now jointly share a record for most centuries (4) in ODIs against India.
  • Taufeeq Umar (22) and Saeed Anwar put on 58 runs for the first wicket, which is Pakistan's second best for this wicket-position against India in World Cup - the best is 84 between Aamir Sohail and Saeed Anwar at Bangalore in 1995/96.
  • Inzamam-ul-Haq's run out is his 35th dismissal in this fashion.  In ODIs, only Pakistan's Wasim Akram has been dismissed most times (38 times)  run out than Haq.
  • Haq's five innings in this World Cup are : 6 vs. Australia; 4 vs. Namibia; 0 vs. England; 0 vs. Holland and 6 vs. India - aggregate 16 runs in 5 innings at an average of 3.20. 
  • Haq has extended his World Cup Record of most times run out - 9 times in 26 innings.
  • The fourth wicket partnership of 73 runs between Yousuf Youhana and Saeed Anwar is a World Cup record for Pakistan against India, surpassing the 22 between Javed Miandad and Salim Malik at Sydney in 1991/92.
  • The seventh wicket partnership of 48 between Rashid Latif and Younis Khan is a world cup record for Pakistan against India, surpassing the 22 between Abdur Razzaq and Inzamam-ul-Haq at Old Trafford in 1999.
  • Anil Kumble, with 14 catches in 17 World Cup matches, shares the top spot with Steve Waugh (14 in 33) and Ricky Ponting (14 in 22).  They all three jointly hold a record for most catches (14)by a fielder in World Cup history.
  • Ashish Nehra (10-0-74-2) earned a dubious distinction by conceding 74 runs.  In World Cup matches for India, only Karsan Ghavri had conceded more runs than Nehra - 83 runs off 11 overs against England at Lord's 1975.
  • Sourav Ganguly registered his first duck in World Cup and the 11th in ODIs - this was his fourth first-ball duck in ODIs - the earlier occasions being against New Zealand at Wellington in 2002-03; vs. England at Chester-le-Street in 2002 and vs. Sri Lanka at Bombay in 1996/97.
  • Sachin Tendulkar became the first to aggregate 400 runs in the 2002-03 World Cup.
  • Playing in his 28th World Cup game, Sachin also became the first to aggregate 1500 runs in the history of World Cup.
  • Playing in his 309th ODI,Sachin (98 off 75 balls) completed his 12,000 runs - the first player to achieve this landmark. 
  • Sachin  registered his highest score in World Cup against Pakistan, surpassing his previous best of 54 not out at Syudney in 1991-92.
  • Sachin's 98 is the seventh occasion when he has been dismissed in the 90s, emulating Mohammad Azharuddin's record of MOST SCORES IN THE 90s for India.
  • Sachin, for the second time in World Cup history, has been dismissed in the 90s.  Against Australia at Wankhede Stadium in 1996-96, he was dismissed on 90.
  • Mohammad Kaif (35) recorded his best score in 19 ODI innings.  This is highest ever score in World Cup, surpassing his 25 off 24 balls against Zimbabwe at Harare in this edition of the World Cup.
  • Sachin and Kaif established a partnership record (102)against Pakistan in World Cup for the fifth wicket, surpassing the 30 by Azharuddin and Navjot Sidhu at Bangalore in 1995-96.
  • The 102-run stand is India's best for the third wicket in ODIs in South Africa, surpassing the 85 between Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul dravid against Zimbabwe at Benoni in 1996-97.
  • The aforesaid partnership for the third wicket is the best by any visiting team at Centurion Park, surpassing the 72 between Nathan Astle and Roger Twose against South Africa in 2000-01.
  • Pakistan's 273 for 7 is their highest at this venue, surpassing their previous best of 245 for 9 against Sri Lanka at Centurion in 1994-95.
  • Yuvraj Singh posted his maiden fifty in World Cup - his 11th fifty in ODIs. India has recorded victories in 10 of them.
  • The 99-run partnership (unbroken)between Yuvraj and Rahul Dravid is a record for India vs. Pakistan in World Cup.  The said partnership is India's second best against Pakistan in ODIs - the best is 112 by Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri at Hyderabad in 1986/87.
